How to Cut Calories in Daily Routine (& LOSE WEIGHT!)

Using these simple steps, you can cut as much as 500 calories per day out of your daily routine!

Step 1 of 12

Cutting right to the chase...there are many ways to cut calories. I will show a few ways to cut extra calories each day easily...

Step 2 of 12
Step 1: Drinks Drinks can be a major source of calories each day, and most don't realize it. One 8 fl oz Cole has 97 cals...and one Gatorade packs 125 cals! A lot of "empty" calories if you ask me...

Step 1: Drinks Drinks can be a major source of calories each day, and most don't realize it. One 8 fl oz Cole has 97 cals...and one Gatorade packs 125 cals! A lot of "empty" calories if you ask me...

Step 3 of 12

How to cut calories: There are two main ways to cut cals with drinks... 1) Switch to water 2) Dilute drink with water. The first one obviously will cut calories, but have you ever tried the latter?

Step 4 of 12

Try this: take a bottle of Gatorade and poor 1/4 of bottle into a glass. Fill the rest with water. You are now looking at a 30-40 calorie drink, and still taste pretty good!

Step 5 of 12

Calories saved from switching drinks: almost 100-150 calories per day, depending on how many of these drinks you consume on a daily basis. Wow!

Step 6 of 12
Step 2: Avoid the food coma! Food coma is that feeling you get when you have eaten too much and your body is draining your energy to help digest the abundance of food you have eaten. Let's avoid this!

Step 2: Avoid the food coma! Food coma is that feeling you get when you have eaten too much and your body is draining your energy to help digest the abundance of food you have eaten. Let's avoid this!

Step 7 of 12

How to cut calories: know your stopping point! That seems obvious but in all honesty, if you know that, you can avoid it every time. But if that is tough, here are a few things to help...

Step 8 of 12

1) Try eating on smaller plates: we live in a world that likes to see "happy plates"; to not be wasteful and finish your food. Eating on a smaller plate forces smaller portions, and avoids the coma.

Step 9 of 12

2) One-bread sandwich: Ok, bare with me...everyone likes two pieces of bread, but have you ever tried just one? It'll taste the same, and can cut calories from your day.

Step 10 of 12

3) Chia Seeds: Yep, you read it right. The same seeds that grow chia pets can help control hunger before a meal. Try eating a spoonful of chia seeds 30 mins prior and see how much you DON'T eat!

Step 11 of 12

Calories saved through these steps: once again it depends, but when I did ALL of these, I saved almost 400 calories per day simply because I ate smaller portions of the same food. Feeling good!

Step 12 of 12

There are many more ways, I'm sure, but these are good places to start! Comment and leave your own ways to save! Follow me on twitter and instagram (wdbreazy2089)!

Ooh, this is just the post I needed to read today. Thanks for the tips. My tip came from my niece--keep a large bowl of cooked quinoa in the refrig (cooked in organic chicken broth). When hungry, either eat a few bites or quickly stir fry some vegetables and maybe a chicken tender and toss with the quinoa. It's tasty and has been keeping me full. I'm losing my cravings for mega sugar. Same with miso soup. Just learned how to make and it is a great fill-up snack.

Oh Snap Snap

I'm gonna try and cut out baked goods. You see all those baking recipes and how much sugar, eggs, butter and cream they use? Most ppl prolly eat cakes n cookies in moderate portions once in awhile but the sheer amount of those unhealthy ingredients used makes me uneasy. I'm watching my heart health as well as my waist line...

Make sure your plate is 50% veggies, 25% meat and/or fish (tofu for those vegetarians) and 25% of your side dish. Add lemon to your water. It has so many benefits and keeps hunger at bay. Drink lots of water! Water keeps you full longer and naturally, you won't eat as much. Cut out white bread, white noodles, white rice. Substitute them for whole wheat. Makes a huge difference since white flour and white carbs are transferred into sugar and your body holds on to these as fat.

Drink a glass of water before having your meal. Eat less carbs and more fruits + veges, cos carbs can make you put on weight. Snack less, or snack on healthy alternatives. Sleep more.

If you have the time, try to cook for yourself as much as you can. I used to get takeout all the time, until I realized I could lose wright and save a ton of money by just learning how to make Chinese, Thai, Indian, Mexican, Italian etc. at home for myself. Do three meals a day in your own kitchen if you can. Now I have a simple rule: no work, no food :)

I know it seems kinda obvious, but people struggle with this... Don't eat if you're not hungry! Just grab some water and distract yourself so you stay out of the kitchen. 😜😊

Actually, salads are low in calories, so it is better to start each meal with the main course. As time passes, it will feel you up and you will eat less. Eat your salad last! By then you will be full!

I always eat my salad first with every meal. That way I fill up on low calorie greens and veggies. Great guide, I'm going to start doing "half sandwiches".

I've been hearing a lot about chia seeds. I've done my research as well, I just wish I knew about them way before.

@Kevin. Your right. Now when I eat to a "coma" I hate it...don't even do it on Thanksgiving. Also at a restaurant NEVER clean your plate, I always leave a little on the plate. All these little things actually add up!

This is actually a really good suggestion. When I lost a bunch of weight I had a rule of thumb: you should be able to get up from the table and walk around right after you finish eating without feeling uncomfortable.

@guy Yeah, but not always! Get some fresh cheese, not like our brick stuff but a crumbly kind (called queso fresco at the latin store) and make tacos with beans and rice, or spinach, or squash, or even mashed potato. Those are all authentic options and super healthy. Chop up some onion lettuce and tomato and that'll fill you up good with hardly any fat.

Now I love tortillas! Unfortunately used with Mexican food smothered in lard and cheese! Hahha

@guy Grocery store pitas usually suck, but if you have a Middle Eastern store around you could get 'em fresh baked/homemade (or some other flatbread that'll blow your mind). Use google or yelp or something to find fresh ones and try 'em. Same rule applies to tortillas BTW.

Are there any good wraps out there besides pita, can't stand the taste.

Couldn't agree more, just look at the best sandwiches in the world:) - Danish SmΓΆrrebrΓΆd - hardly any bread at all, and with rye in it. The real effort goes into the filling.

Great point! Will make "faceless" sandwiches in he future :)

Definitely no mayo! Thanks for your input!

Or pita bread and pile on the veggies you like onions, homegrown tomatoes, cucumbers, pickles, sprouts, whatever YOU like and very little high cal, high fat meat and you've got yummy and healthy... Oh remember no mayo

Betty :) 9 months ago
