Paul Stone, first time having shin splints it is proper to iced it immediately, 3x aday to relieve pain and tape or wrap it with bandage.Prescribe anti-inflammatory medication ibuprofen (always consult a doctor before taking medication). Tape the shin for support - A taping worn all day will allow the shin to rest properly by taking the pressure off the muscle attachments. Perform gait analysis to determine if you overpronate or oversupinate. Use sports massage techniques on the posterior deep muscle compartment but avoid the inflamed periostium close to the bone. Operation is rare due to this, the final option is seek or consult a doctor to do xrays and tests.

Friend of mine had SS real bad and she was a runner (she had a real bad foot roll to the middle) She went to a place in Texas called Ideal Feet and she said after about two weeks and an adjustment she swears by the. I looked the place up and it had a few bad reviews but I talked to a few people and i think its worth the risk. has anyone else tried custom fit inserts? I don't want to not get help based of a few upset people i know its not an overnight cure.

Yap it helps, Take the causes of shin splints into account when preventing future cases. For overpronation and oversupination, proper running shoes must be worn. If muscle tightness or strength cause shin splints, stretching or strengthening exercises need to be added to the athlete's training routine.

I had shin splints for a long time and a physical therapist friend told me to run on the treadmill for 2 weeks at a slower speed with just 1% grade. It shifts the stress from the anterior front of your legs to your calf muscles (which are better shock absorbers). Also picking up a towel with your bare feet helped too.

It will last for a week, or more than so better advice iced it 3x a day and taped it using leg support or sports bandage, and enough rest for the feet.

Yeah, taped it after the iced methods, and we need rest and more protein to repair the muscles.:)

I am a sports trainer and if you have one on your sports team or activity you can get them to tape your shins during activity. Because a shin splint is the muscle lifting off your shin. You can tape them until it heals to reduce the pain

It's a condition athletes suffer, mostly dancers or runners. With dancers its when they aren't not coming down through their whole foot when landing a jump or something. Its very very painful and is felt through your shins. If it isn't dealt with right away it can often lead to permanent damage. This is a handy way to relieve the pain.

Continous doing this for a week and rest it works unless your shin is totally damaged.

This doesn't work, it might work for slight soreness. But not for shin splints.
