How to Create Funky Summer Nails
As requested by a fellow nail art lover, here is the guide for my off the cuff summer nails. I hope you like π
I originally did this design in white and yellow with black stripes but I've just discovered I'm fresh out of white varnish and I need to replenish my stocks. You can use any colours you wish...
The colours I'm using. Miss Sporty number 301 and 330. Pink Tease pink striping varnish. Maybelline Salon Manicure base coat. Collection 2000 2 in 1 strengthener and hardener. Barry M's top coat.
This is a fabulous base coat for ridged nails. It smoothes out the nail bed for better coverage.
This is also a favourite, turns your nails to concrete for long lasting colour.
Apply both of those base coats, in the order shown, and obviously after your nails have been cleaned and any other varnish has been removed.
With your main colour, paint your nails except your chosen accent nail. And as you can probably guess if you've checked out my other guides, my accent nail is ALWAYS my ring finger.
Paint your accent nail in your secondary colour. I think the ring finger as the accent nail is extremely girly and for me it draws attention to a few of my favourite things. My wedding rings. ππππ
You will need two coats of colour to make it solid. Also, I normally start off with a base of white to make my colours stand out more.... but I don't possess any white at the minute.
Using the opposite colours, paint half of your nail tips in a sort of semi circle shape. Don't worry about neatness for now, the edges will be covered by lines.
Do the same on all the nails....
Like so. You will also need two coats of these small semi circles.
With your striping brush, bobby pin, or dotting tool, carefully outline the semi circle twice. I go from side to tip, but which ever way works easiest for you is the best way.
Once all is painted and dry, clean up with a q-tip and varnish remover and apply a top coat to seal it all and enhance the glossiness.
Finished!! If you're feeling brave, why not try to apply rhinestones to the accent finger outlines? Just dont forget to top coat over your stones!! But what ever you do, have fun doing it!!
