You can buy edamame at a lot of oriental places you could even grow it! All edamame is just a soy bean pod

Just made as an appetizer tonight. Pretty damn good. Used smart balance for butter, and a soy sauce based Japanese sauce along with garlic. Only thing I would suggest is thawing the edamame. Adds cooking time. No need fo

Sara, I know this doesn't affect you... I've always steamed the edamame... We aren't gung-ho using the pod version... But this one isn't steamed and uses pod... I'm terribly terribly allergic to butter. What I use is called "Earth Balance"... It looks and very-very nearly tastes like Land o Lakes butter. I use it in everything. We've had skeptics try it and I kid you not, few of them asked if i was tricking them bc it tastes like butter. They love it and use it all the time. I use organic tamari which is just as delicious as the soy sauce! Thanks so much Sara for your generosity! :-)

I used unsalted but really you could use anything that suits your taste. Sometimes I even use Country Crock (which I love). It's just a delicate balance between good salty and over salty so salt with caution :)

I had this at a restaurant once before and wondered how it was made. I made the last night and had to fight my husband and kids to get any. Only difference is I added a pinch of salt and pepper (not a lot I would suggest tasting first) thanks for sharing! :)

You could substitute Earth Balance for the butter if you want a vegan dish.

Nope, wasn't planning on it. :) Just saying how I typically do it. Your way is great, more calories, but tasty! :D

Just don't add salt to this recipe! The soy sauce gives it a lot of saltiness and if you add too much or add salt it can be a little overpowering at times. At least that's what I've found ;)

I love basic steamed edamame with salt, but never thought to do it this way. I think I am going to do that tonight. Sweet.

No question is dumb if you don't know the answer! And you just eat the inside. You kind of bite the outside and suck out the beans inside. Then you discard the outer shell. Hope you enjoy!

Bico Flores

Really dumb question but do you eat the outter part as well or only the insides?
