Try granny smith ๐ŸThe slight sourish tang is a perfect complement with the sweet crumble. Yum yummm!!

Hi Jeff, the sweet cream is just the type of butter I had... Any Stick of butter will do:). I always make this pie after apple picking so whatever type we pick gets used!! Hope you enjoy!

How important is sweet cream over regular butter? (I used salted regular butter; is sweet cream salted?). A small improvement would be to put sweet cream in the ingredients list. I didn't notice the picture showed sweet cream till I got back from store. Also, do you sift the flour before measuring? And do you have a favorite apple for this? They make these style pies in Oak Glen, CA. I'm so happy to see this recipe.

I don't think you have to do the pie crust- I think you can make it into a nice apple crisp. The crumb topping to this recipe is the really amazing part, so as long as you incorporate that, and the apple seasoning I think you will be happy with the end result!

I've been looking for this type of recipe. Looking forward to Making this. I wanted more of an apple crisp. Do I need to use the pie crust? I no what would I do instead?
