Step 2 of 4
Remove the core. As you will soon learn; you may want to make sure you core out enough extra to hold the entire egg.

Step 3 of 4
Put the avocado in the pan, the egg in the avocado and the pan back into the oven. Cook until the egg is how you like it. I like my eggs between med and hard. My oven took 13 minutes.

Toad in bowl? A good trick for getting the nut out of the avocado is to cut around the nut with the knife, twist the halves apart, then use a knife jammed into the nut to just pull it out.

Sam Rabellino

got it thanks, turned out pretty well with cheese and tomatoes on toast

The pan will have been pre-heated with the oven. When you crack the egg into the avocado, if any spills over it will fry right then. Quick answer: all cooks in the oven.

Alex MacK last year

Sam Rabellino

I'm confused do you cook the avocado and egg in the pan at all or just straight into the oven?

Jim Cotabato - LOL! love avocados, not eggs! But will give this a try for egg-loving guests. Yes! To the garlic, and maybe a dash of tamari for the saltiness that brings out avocado flavor so well! Hum... Guess there's no real reason to leave the skin on, too. Off with the skin! ;-)

It would be fantastic topped with diced onions, tomatoes and cilantro with maybe a dollop of sour cream. Brilliant recipe. Isn't this a Cuban dish?

I find myself strangely intrigued by this. I say 'strangely' because I have no love for avocado, but I feel like I may have to give this a shot. Hmm... maybe add some garlic in there somewhere...

Same as Mark, it's a lot easier to pluck the pit out whole.

Mark...I've grown up watching and learning from my mom how to take the seed out just like that! I'm 42 now, so it's been done for many many years! Lol!

+1 to Mark's comment, I've never seen that before!

I never cut through the seed. I run the knife around, hold the bottom, twist the top to separate. The seed will be in one half, hit it with the sharp edge of the knife, it will stick, then rotate the knife and the seed will come right out. No digging required.

Mark Swanson last year

Chris Wootton

Do you leave the skin on? It looks that way, just want to make sure...

Женя Олейников

This photo is confusing! I have not read carefully and tried to fry in a skillet rather than in the oven. I tried three times and each time the fry did not work properly. fried eggs and boiled avocado was obtained. I was saddened by the thought that I did not quite ripe avocado. Please replace this image on an image with an oven!
