How to Clean Silver Jewelry Using Toothpaste
Start the Guide ›

I use toothpaste to clean silver jewelry or anything silver. (I have silver cleaning solution but I rarely use it.) Toothpaste contains hydrated silica which is an abrasive and surface stain remover.

Step 2 of 13
Squeeze out a little bit of toothpaste. (My brushing preference is cinnamon (TMI?) but it works with whatever kind you have) Tartar control works the best since it contains the most hydrated silica.

Rub the toothpaste all over the ring. Just like you're washing it but instead of using soap it's toothpaste. I know it seems strange but it works.

That's a clean and shiny ring! If your silver still isn't shiny enough- just squeeze out more toothpaste and do it again.

What's that you say? You think it won't get clean unless I use smelly silver polishing chemicals?

Guys, I also use the toothbrush and toothpaste method, but I had no idea it scratches and damages the jewellery in time. I have been told that soaking silver in lukewarm water that results from boiling potatoes works wonders, but I keep forgetting to try it every time I make mash. Maybe someone else will try it and post the result here ;)
