How to Chalk Dye Your Hair

Everyone from hipsters to children to Hollywood celebrities is embracing the runway fad for brightly colored hair, using soft pastel chalk. Save money and it's really fun and it wash off easy

Step 1 of 10

Spray a 1-inch section of hair with water. You don't need to soak the entire strand, just go as high up as you want the color to be.

Step 3 of 10

Color on your hair with one of the pastels. I recommend choosing about three colors, and putting one at a time in your hair.

Step 4 of 10

Start with the lightest shade first, since, as you can see, the color gets all over your gloves and you'll end up with a muddied version of the same hue throughout if you go dark to light.

Step 5 of 10

Step 3: Wait for your hair to air dry. This was the hardest part for me - I was so anxious to see the final look!

Step 6 of 10

Step 4: Using the curling or flat iron, go over each colored strand. This sets the colors in your hair, so it will last longer. Then brush and style however you normally would!

@Victoria some of my friend I have tried mg idea n they did use regular chalk they say it's not the same coz it didn't last long?

It works fine if you use normal washable chalk and usually after you iron it the color does not come off unless you make it wet

I, personally wouldn't be using pastels from like art and stuff in my hair. It will stain your pillow cases and couch etc...if you find that your blonde hair is stained buy a PROFESSIONAL clarifying shampoo. Wash ur hair with that leave it on for 5 or 10 mins and see if that works. If not, u need to see a stylist

It does stain! I did all the colours in my medium brown hair and the pink and purple are still visible 4 washes later.

If u use the right kind of 'chalk' product in your hair it shouldn't stain. If you're using kids chalk there's no guarantee. As a hairdresser I would recommend using Kevin Murphy color bug. It will work in dark hair, it's best to use a dry shampoo on the area u want color on first and then lock it in with hairspray :)

@Erin: lol that ok... Uhmm for blonde u dnt have to wet ur hair coz the color show very good n it wouldnt stain ur hair coz it wash off when u take a shower :)

@johnney: well for us drak hair lol u have to spray water wet ur hair a little bit so that the color would show more coz if u don't wet it u cant see the color that much
