put your siphon setup together and fasten it to your 5 gallon carboy. you want it about 3/4 of the way down. not touching the bottom of the carboy. I use a rubber band because I'm a clown.

Jan Pechbrenner

Nice guide. I find it best to put the cap on each bottle as its filled and let it sit until all bottles are filled. That way the oxygen in the neck is displaced by the CO2 being released by the beer before the cap is sealed tight.

If you use a good no rinse sanitizer, like star san , baking the bottles isn't really required...

You can also use the rinsing and drying cycle on a dishwasher with the heat on. Works great and holds a ton of bottles. Just don't add any soap. It'll skunk your beer

Be sure to let your sugar mixture cool below 80 degrees F before mixing it with the beer, don't want to kill the yeast!

also that super sludge at the bottom will clog up your cane. unless you have an awesome non-clogging one. mine is for serfs.

JR Johnson

If you have a cane, why does it matter if you touch the bottom of the carboy?

your not supposed to use the sanitization solution on these little boys. I think because they have that rubber casing on them. but all my dudes at the brew craft store say that this is enough for the cap sanitization.

(author) last year

Greg Cohn

Interesting that you don't just use the sanitizing solution - why not?

yes dark and evil spots are better. preferably with ghost and specter particles. light does spoil beer. that's also why I use dark bottles.

(author) last year

George Murray

I think darkness helps the fermentation process. Andy?

George Murray last year

Rahul Malik

Why do you have to leave them in a dark spot? Does light spoil the brews?
